Don’t even think about buying French doors until you get quotes here...
I’ve always found French doors attractive but I’ve no idea why. At one point I was installing Georgian French doors where and whenever possible on my
property development projects.
Trends do come and go but it’s quite clear that French doors are standing the test of time as they are as popular today as the have been at any time during their long history.
When it comes to double glazed French doors the early versions wern’t great as they looked cumbersome and gave in less light owing to frames that were simply too large. Thankfully the double glazing companies have caught on to this fact and modified the designs to such an extent that you can now purchase a double glazed French door set that is most certainly in keeping with the original design.
If I was installing French doors today I would most certainly opt for the double glazed version as there is little to compare when matched up with a timber version.
The main problem with timber French doors is that they are either too loose and let in all the drafts or too tight which means you need a big pair of boots to get them closed. As the seasons and the weather changes so did the width of the doors leading to much frustration. Fact is, the only set of French doors that I Have ever seen work to perfection over a longer period were double glazed.
Other problems in the traditional timber design is that they offered little in the way of security, noise and dirt pollution and of course the biggest problem was that they let all the heat out of the room.
When you compare a traditional timber set of French doors to the double glazed option then there is little comparison as the double glazed French doors have sophisticated locking systems, cut down dramatically on noise and dirt pollution and of course save you loads on your energy costs because of the thermal properties offered up by the double glazing heat retentive glazing.
If you’re still not convinced then spare a thought for the maintenance aspect. The only maintenance required for the double glazed version is a wipe down from time to time and a little spray of wd40. Compare that to getting out the tools and repainting every few years and once again it’s easy to see why more and more homeowners are installing double glazed French doors.Get FREE Quotes For Double Glazed French Doors TODAY!
